Keep the Engine Running“Aw, hutch.”
Gwendolyn Groane flipped up her welding mask and set her tools down on the little stool beside the engine she had been repairing. She stood up and looked around. The cavernous basement-slash-garage-slash-workshop was littered with machines in various stages of disassembly, but one glance was all it took to know what she was looking for wasn’t there. With a sigh she stomped up the stairs, her heavy boots sounding like a stampede.
The basement was huge, but the building above it was deceptively small. Mittens & Groane was a small company, so a repurposed farmhouse was all the headquarters they needed. Martin J. Mittens Jr. was in the main office, watching a questionably-legal rooftop race on the vidscreen. He had left the door open, but she knocked anyway just to get his attention.
“Oh, hey Gwen. What’s up?”
“We’re out of dimmer switches. I’m driving into town to get some more.”

The pure strudium that runs abundantly in the mountains near the equator could be used as an efficient fuel source for almost any frame, and more of the stuff could be found there than in the entire Theta sector.

Looking up to realize that the planet is only a few hours from being glassed entirely, Obelisk squad’s commander orders his team to hightail it to the interstellar communications array in the nearest city. Meanwhile, seeing the ships looming overhead and detecting the charging of their weapons, the Ijad squadron sends a detail to the large comms array, a city away, to let their commanders know of and how stop the impending destruction.
Ruler size may be increased to compensate for enlarged battlefield, but number of units on ruler should remain the same.
Battlefield should be up to twice the size in the longest dimension of a normal playing field, and teams should begin as far away from each other and the center as possible. A large, central station is to be placed in the center of the map, with at least one smaller station per team a quarter of di
